Guilderland Flying Dutchman VS
Christian Brothers Academy Brothers
Saturday 9/24  1:30pm at CBA (Albany)

 Interesting Storylines
  • These teams has split the last 2 games with CBA winning last year (33-21), and Guilderland winning in 2009 (21-20)
  • CBA has won its last 2 games by a combined score of 93-6
  • Guilderland is coming off a 26-13 victory over Saratoga, where they were led by Sr QB Tim O'Connor.
 Keys for the Flying Dutchman
  • Must match the Physicality of the brothers
  • Has the size to combat the Brothers on the line of scrimmage, but must match the toughness.
  • The CBA offsnes is averaging 45 points a game this year, so The Dutchman must limit the mistakes, and show some offensive fire power of its own.
  • Must tackle well and not allow the talented halfbacks of CBA to get into the secondary.
  • CBA is a team that loves to blitz, so Guilderland must be prepared for that, and overcome it.

Keys for the Brothers
  • This team has improved every week so far, and must continue that trend.
  • Must not overlook this tough Guilderland squad.
  • Must continue to be strong in the passing game, as well as the running game.
  • Must avoid penalties and play smart football

Week 3 GOW


Niskayuna Silver Warriors vs Colonie Garnet Raiders
Friday 9/16  7:00pm  Colonie Central High School

Interesting Storylines
  • Niskayuna won last years meeting 38-0.
  • Despite both teams Quarterbacks playing extremely well, they both enter this contest 0-2.
  • Colonie enters this contest on an 11 game home losing streak.
  • Niskayuna is 11-1 in ts last 12 Road Games.
  • With only a 7 Regular game season, who ever ends up going 0-3 would need a miraculous run to qualify for the sectional playoffs.

Keys for the Silver Warriors
  • Defense must do a good job of Tackling Colonie QB Steve Wutzer, and not allow him to extend the play.
  • Offensive line must create openings for the very dangerous Chris Henry.
  • If the Offensive line gives QB Rob Singleton time, there is very few section 2 teams who can stop their passing attack.
  • Must do a better job of mixing it up. While throwing 52 yards is good for passing stats, it isn't the best way to win games.
Keys for the Garnet Raiders
  • Must strike quick. They have done a good job of this in their first 2 games, so must start fast.
  • Must pressure Niskayuna Sr Signal Caller Rob Singleton.
  • Must play strong from start to finish.
  • Must play with confidence, and look like a team expecting to win.

Week 2 GOW


Ballston Spa Scotties  vs  Schenectady Patriots
Friday 9/7  7:00pm
Schenectady High School

Interesting Storylines
  • Each Team had to Rally to win their week 1 encounters.
  • Ballston Spa QB John DeGuadi ran for 158 Yards last week against Guilderland.
  • In the Quarterfinals last year Ballston Spa held off a furious rally and defeated Schenectady 27-21.
  • These two schools havent met in the Regular season in over 5 years.
  • Historically being a Basketball school, The Football Patriots have made 4 consecutive Playoff Appearances.
  • Under Coach John Bowen The Scotties have went from being scheduled as everyone's Homecoming game to being a Perennial powerhouse including 5 straight Playoff appearances including a Superbowl birth in 2009.
 Keys for the Scotties
  • Must prevent the big play.
  • Must not fall behind early again.
  • Defense must win game in the trenches .
  • QB DeGuadi must pass the ball just as well as he runs it.
  • Must control the clock and keep the Patriots off the field.

Keys for the Patriots
  • Must control the Line of Scrimmage.
  • Must tackle well, and not allow the quick ball carriers for the scotties to dance around in the open field.
  • Must sack the Quarterback and not allow him to scramble down field like he did against Guilderland last week.
  • Must minimize penalties and mental mistakes.
  • Must play disciplined and not overpersue as ballston Spa uses alot of misdirection.

  •  Saratoga won last years match-up (20-0) after forcing 4 turnovers.
  • Albany is riding a 27 game losing streak. Their last win came in 2007 against Saratoga (35-34)
  • This is a rematch of the inaugural Class AA Championship (1996) won by Albany High (17-14) 
  • Last Matchup: Saratoga 20, Albany 0 (2010)
  • Last Playoff Match-up: Saratoga 13, Albany 9 (2005)

  • Must take it to them early and attempt to fluster them.
  • Must control the tempo of the game.
  • Must not over estimate the very Athletic falcons.
  • Must consistently force the falcons into 3rd and longs, and force them to pass the ball.
  • Must finish the game and not rest after they build a lead.

  • Must convert on 3rd Downs and keep drives moving.
  • Must stay out of 3rd and long.
  • Historically a running team, must succeed in both running and passing the ball. 
  • Must avoid costly penalties and turnovers.
  • Must play with confidence, and look like a team expecting to win, and not like an underdog story.
